Job Analysis

CHC Job Analysis

A job analysis study is a systematic process for collecting information regarding a profession or occupation and identifies the essential duties and knowledge and/or skills required for competent performance. The results of the job analysis describe the breadth and depth of knowledge and skills that must be covered by the certification exam for it to be deemed valid, reliable and legally defensible.

A job analysis begins with the convening of a committee of CCH Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who identify statements that describe the knowledge and skills required for an entry level certified homeopath. Once the knowledge and skills are established, the statements are converted to a survey. Next, the survey is distributed to the homeopathic community who is asked to rate each statement’s importance and frequency relative to homeopathic practice.

Data from the survey are then analyzed using standard psychometrics and the results form a blueprint for exam content. All knowledge and skills measured on the exam must be linked to content identified as significant by the homeopathic community.

The procedures used in the job analysis are designed to comply with all standards for professional certification by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). The CHC Job Analysis utilizes the expertise of CCH subject matter experts as well as Kryterion psychometricians.

CHC 2025 Job Analysis Summary

The 2025 Job Analysis Committee SME (Subject Matter Expert) selection took place between December 2024 and January 2025. The job analysis SME committee was selected to represent the population of CHC certified homeopaths. The committee included certified homeopaths from Canada and the United States, homeopaths who have been certified for less than and more than five years, homeopaths with and without medical licenses, as well as male and female homeopaths. The final committee consisted of 13 SMEs and three CHC Director co-chairs.

During each meeting held between February and June 2025, the committee reviewed, refined, and updated the exam content statements (i.e., test objectives) from the previous (2019) content outline. Decisions by the committee were guided by the awareness of the test’s purpose: to measure entry-level competence required to practice classical homeopathy and the most essential skills required of a homeopath. As a result,177 statements divided into nine domains were identified as essential content knowledge and skills.

The content statements were then reviewed by the psychometrician and a survey containing all the content statements was prepared for distribution to the homeopathic community. Respondents to the survey were asked to respond to each statement on the importance of the topic to homeopathic practice and the frequency with which it was used. A total of 222 respondents completed the survey. As a result of the statistical analysis of the responses to the survey, all of the 177 test objectives were retained for measurement in the certification exam (click here to view these objectives).

Once the content outline was confirmed through the survey, the statements are then used by the item writers to develop items for the exam. All exam items must be linked to one of these statements. The content outline also becomes an essential study guide for individuals planning to take the exam.
